I was working on a future newsletter about Rage Against the Machine’s sophomore album Evil Empire. Part of the story that I remembered is just how long it took for that album to come out. I felt like I was waiting forever. I was 13 and 14 when I fell in love with the band. I was 17 by the time they released Evil Empire. That reminded me how long of a wait it felt like waiting for the followup to Undertow by Tool. I plugged the dates in Google to calculate, and I had to double-check using a spreadsheet.
The time of wait between the two albums for both Tool and Rage was exactly 1,260. It’s true that there was a standard day of the week for album releases so that increases the likelihood of this occurring, but still, it seems awfully crazy.
I’ll be back with you on Friday for a 30-year retrospective on Ten by Pearl Jam. Thanks for reading!
